The Bottom Line Feature
It is difficult for consumers to choose from the bewildering assortment of
individual health plans available in California. There are PPO's, HMO's,
POS plans, hospital only plans and subscriber only plans. To further
confuse matters, some plans span several categories (such as High Deductible
HMO HSA Plans). There could be different tax consequences under different
plans. At the high end of the price scale you will find plans priced at
about ten times the cost of the cheapest plans. In California, there are
about 150 plans to choose from, a daunting proposition.
To the rescue comes our Bottom Line Calculator. It ranks plans by total
cost plus risk (projected annual premium plus maximum annual out of
pocket claims). From there you generate a bottom line comparison which
also factors in any HSA tax savings and shows the selected plans in a side
by side comparison format. Just look at the red bottom line for each
deductible scenario to see which plan is the best deal.
